St Pete Beach Named Sunset Capital of FL By Governor Crist

St Pete Beach has officially been designated “Sunset Capital of Florida”. Sunset is celebrated every day here, with locals and visitors gathering on the beach to watch our spectacular sunsets. Now it’s official, we are the Sunset Capital.
On Saturday Governor Charlie Crist performed one of his last official duties, officially proclaiming St. Pete Beach “Sunset Capital of Florida.” The announce was made on Saturday on Pass A Grille beach by the Mayor, who received a letter from Charlie Crist which reads: ‘St. Pete Beach is an exceptional community, an outstanding place to live, and I hope that many citizens will be able to experience the majestic sunsets in St. Pete Beach, the Sunset Capital of Florida.’

Neighboring Treasure Island was named “Sand Sculpture Capital of Florida” in 2001 by then Governor Jeb Bush, which helped boost tourism. St Pete Beach residents and business owners are hoping it will help them after a difficult year.
