Clearwater Beach Holiday Inn Express Approved

Last night the Clearwater City Council unanimously approved a development allowing construction of a Holiday Inn Express at Coronado and Devon Drive.

The new hotel will replace the now closed Port Vue hotel next to the marina, and will have 8 stories with 108 hotel rooms. The developer, Decade Properties, also owns the Holiday Inn on Gulfview Blvd.

Frenchy’s Owner Opening Clearwater Beach Hotel

Mike “Frenchy” Preston, owner of popular Frenchy’s restaurants has purchased 2 Clearwater Beach hotels with plants to open a hotel with a retro “classy early 1960’s theme”.

The $1.6 million dollar purchase includes Ann’s Edgewater and the Olympia Motel. The Olympia will be renovated and should be complete in a few months. There are no plans yet for changes to Ann’s Edgewater.

The 2 properties located on East Shore Drive next to Frenchy’s Seafood Co., which supplies the Frenchy’s Restaruants with fresh seafood.

Harborage Marina Expansion Planned

The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners has given approval for the expansion of the Harborage Marina in St Pete, which is located on Bayboro Harbor accross from USF.

The marina owner, Marinas International, wants to add 12 slips for large yachts, 4 new piers with an access ramp, 7 slips for vessels up to 200 feet long and 9 60-foot slips. Currently the Harborage has more than 300 wet slips and a floating concrete dock system, and 400 high-and-dry storage spaces.

Snell Isle Apartments May Add Boat Slips

The Laramar Group will ask a St. Petersburg development review commission Aug. 5 for permission to build 50 slips along Smacks Bayou that could rent out to residents.

The Chicago property management company that bought the 272-unit Snell Isle Luxury Waterfront Apartment Homes in 2007 for nearly $30 million. The boat slips would be the last phase of a two-year restoration. The complex was deserted when it was purchased, and 18 months later is at 100% occupancy.

Tampa Port Expansion Planned

A $13.3 million parking garage addition is set to begin at the Port of Tampa in Channelside, and across the channel a $75 million expansion of the container facility has started. The two projects are among many capital improvements at the port this year to accommodate future growth that is expected to follow the 2014 Panama Canal expansion.

Trump Tower Owner Seeks Quick Disposal

Just days after reclaiming the former Trump Tower site in a foreclosure auction on July 15th, Colonial Bank is looking for a buyer, and may have one as soon as this week.
